The National Committee for Global Change Research brings the global change initiative, Future Earth, to Finland. The National Committee is working to establish a national network of scientists to stimulate engagement between researchers and end-users of science to codesign solutions for sustainable development.

Future Earth Suomi (FES; Future Earth Finland) aims to tackle questions on global change and sustainable development from an integrated, interdisciplinary perspective and to ensure that research is planned and produced in a close partnership with the society and end-users of science. These objectives are reflected in the Steering Group of the National Committee, which consists of high-level scientists across different disciplines and end-users of science from the most central stakeholder groups. The secretariat of the National Committee is located at the University of Helsinki.

Future Earth (futureearth.org/networks/global-research-networks) supports the activities with over 20 different global research networks (Global Research Networks, GNR) across various fields, covering a global network of approximately 50,000 researchers. Individual networks can serve as a significant pathway to internationalization for Finnish researchers. Main focus areas are climate change, biodiversity, circular economy and sustainable development.
